Rules

OPEN COMPETITION RULES – REVISED Jan 2017

  1. Prints and digital images compete in separate competitions, unless otherwise stated.
  2. Each member may submit a maximum of two entries per competition.
  3. Images can be entered into internal competitions no more than twice, ever.
  4. Entries will be marked out of twenty, unless the rules of the competition state otherwise.
  5. Manipulated images are acceptable provided the original image(s) had been taken with a camera by the entrant and they comply with all other club rules.
  6. Entries – print – must be received by the contest secretary by 19.45hrs on the day of the competition.  Digital must be received one week before the competition, via email is acceptable.  Deadline for email entries is 6pm on the Tuesday one week before the competition.
  7. All images must be appropriately named and dated as follows:
  • Prints are to be labelled with the author & title.

All prints must comply with the following:

  • Minimum print size 6 x 8 inches
  • Maximum mount size 20 x 16 inches
  • All prints must be mounted securely and in such a way as to not cause damage to other prints

8.  Digital Images must be saved with a file name in the following format: Title, Author.jpg
9. Points will be totaled towards the Photographer of The Year and Presidents Cup Competitions as described separately.

Monochrome Print Competition Rules

Open competition rules must be complied with.

  1. Each entry must consist of a set of two prints which demonstrate the author’s ability to produce monochrome images
  2. Entries may be two prints only
  3. The entries will be judged as individual images and will be awarded marks out of twenty which will count towards the Photographer of The Year and Presidents Cup competitions
  4. The overall winner will be selected by the judge
  5. Print sizes are as per open competition rules
  6. Monochrome Definition
    An image is considered to be Monochrome only if it gives the impression of having no colour (i.e. contains only shades of grey which can include pure black and pure white) OR it gives the impression of being a greyscale image that has been toned in one colour across the entire image. (For example by Sepia, red, gold, etc.)

Portfolio Competition Rules

Open competition rules must be complied with.

  1. Each entry must consist of a set of three images which demonstrate the author’s ability and versatility (e.g. landscape, portrait, close-up, candid, colour, or monochrome)
  2. Entries may be three prints only
  3. The entry will be judged as a panel; however each image will be awarded marks out of twenty which will count towards the Photographer of The Year and Presidents Cup competitions
  4. The overall winner will be selected by the judge

 

Portrait Photographer of the Year Competition Rules

  1. The portrait photographer of the year is a straightforward competition comprising no more than two entries per member – (Mounted prints only).
  2. The competition will take place at the Clubs awards evening – held in December each year.
  3. General open competition rules apply with the exception that individual POTY points will not be awarded.
  4. The only other stipulation is that images should not have been entered in any previous club competition.

 

Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition Rules

  1. The Landscape photographer of the year is a straightforward competition comprising no more than two entries per member – (Mounted prints only).
  2. The competition will take place at the Clubs awards evening – held in December each year.
  3. General open competition rules apply with the exception that individual POTY points will not be awarded.
  4. The only other stipulation is that images should not have been entered in any previous club competition.
  5. A revised definition of a suitable  landscape image; An image representing a section of natural scenery  seen by the eye in one view. Whilst an element of human influence, buildings etc, and seascapes can be included these should not form the main focus of the image. (normal poty size rules apply, revised October 2016)

 

Photographer of the Year Competition Rules

All open competition rules apply.

    1. The annual competition will run from 1st January to the first Tuesday in November each year.
    2. The member who has scored the highest number of competition points during the year will be awarded The Photographer of the Year Trophy.
    3. The presentation will be made at the Club Awards evening – held in December each year.

 

The President’s Cup Competition Rules

All open competition rules apply – with the following additions.

    1. The annual Presidents Cup competition will run from 1st January to the first Tuesday in November each year.
    2. Eligible members will be those finishing in places 2 to 6 of the Photographer of the Year competition league table.
    3. The competition will take place at the Clubs Award evening – held in December each year.
    4. Entries to consist of one print not previously entered in a club competition.
    5. Entries will be judged and an overall winner will be selected. No points will be awarded.
    6. The winner will be awarded The Presidents Cup.
